Community spirit shown at special BFC match day

With a special flag placed on every seat in the stadium, fans waved the teams onto the Turf Moor pitch after an afternoon of awareness-raising and fundraising, driven by the two local charities. In the midday sunshine, an army of 60-strong volunteers led a stadium-wide bucket collection, encouraging fans to donate just one pound, the total of which will be split 50/50 between the two charities.

As the bucket collectors swept the stadium, younger fans enjoyed having their faces painted by local face painters and the well-loved Juice Samba Band helped to maintain the celebratory atmosphere.

Having lent their support to Community Day in the lead up to the fixture, the first team players warmed up in Community Day t-shirts and fans were able to access information about the impact of both charities via the Community Day-themed programme and the big screen.

Neil Hart, Chief Executive Officer at Burnley FC in the Community said: “In the lead up to Community Day, we really felt the community get behind our efforts. From Wear Your Shirt Day on Friday to the support of our stadium-wide bucket collection on Sunday, thousands of people have contributed to the success of Community Day.  As self-financing charities, we need the support of local people so we can continue to provide our vital services. I can’t thank everyone enough for their help and we’ll look forward to sharing the final fundraising total!”

Helen McVey, Chief Executive of Pendleside Hospice said
