The eighties come to Burnley for Pendleside Hospice’s Midnight Memories Walk

The eighties will be having a revival when one of Burnley and Pendle’s most loved charity event returns to celebrate Pendleside Hospice’s 30th anniversary.

Registrations are now open for the Midnight Memories Walk, which will take place on July 7th.

Over the years thousands of supporters have taken part in the colourful event and raised a significant amount of money to support the work of the hospice, caring for people with life limiting illnesses their families and carers.

This year to celebrate the hospice’s 30th anniversary the six–mile walk is returning and will take on an 80s theme, taking walkers back to 1988 when an appeal was launched for Hospice Care for Burnley and Pendle, as the hospice was formerly known.

The event will be headed by the four-piece party band Sweet Sensation who will be belting out 80s soul, funk and disco music as part of the warm up from 8.30pm. Participants are encouraged to get into the spirit by putting on neons, tutus or leg warmers to promote the birthday celebrations.

The walk will start at midnight from Burnley Football Club, and is open to both male and females. Young people 10 years and over, can also sign up as long as those under 16 are accompanied by an adult also registered to take part. A reduced registration cost of £10 per walker is available for people who have previously taken part in the Midnight Memories Walk.

The route will take participants from Turf Moor past Thompson Park towards Brierfield stopping by Pendleside Hospice at the half way point, where people will can take time out to remember lost loved ones in a dedicated memorial garden. Walkers will then continue on Colne Road back towards Burnley.

Sammi Graham, head of events and fundraising officer, at Pendleside said: “We are excited that registration is now open for our Midnight Memories Walk. We are hoping for a great turn-out and a really good party atmosphere throughout the night to celebrate 30 years of caring.

“All money raised will go directly towards funding the care of people in the local area, so we would love as many people as possible to sign up.

“We’d like to thank our event sponsors Boohoo and Alderson and Horan who have made this event possible.”

Everyone taking part will receive a Midnight Memories Walk t-shirt and full walker pack.

Registration closes on the 30th June so you are encouraged to sign up now.
