Bob Clayfield has chosen to leave a gift in his Will to Pendleside Hospice, a place that has supported both him and his wife, Barbara, and one that he has been proud to volunteer for over many years.
Bob’s connection with Pendleside began through volunteering. But when Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he experienced the hospice from a very different perspective.
Barbara began attending Pendleside’s Health and Wellbeing and Rehabilitation Group, where she received support, enjoyed time with others and took part in activities that helped her maintain her independence and wellbeing.
The support was important for Bob too.
Knowing Barbara was safe, happy and being looked after by people who understood her needs gave Bob valuable time for himself. He could get on with everyday things, such as shopping, while knowing Barbara was in good hands.
“It gave me some respite and time to myself, knowing Barbara was safe and being well looked after.”
Bob saw the difference Pendleside made to them both, strengthening a connection that had already grown through his volunteering.
Now, 15 years on, Bob continues to volunteer as a patient transport driver, enjoying the opportunity to meet patients and hear their stories.
“The support and care given by Pendleside Hospice is out of this world, and that’s why I want to try and do my bit and keep it going.”
By leaving a gift in his Will, Bob hopes to help Pendleside continue providing that same care and support to local families for generations to come.
