Pendleside Hospice is delighted to announce that work on its reception refurbishment Project will begin on Monday 7 September.
The project, which is expected to take approximately seven months, will transform the current Reception into a modern, warm and welcoming environment for patients, families, visitors, volunteers and staff, while creating additional much-need space and improving the building’s energy efficiency.
Currently approximately 30% of our energy is being lost through the entrance to the main building of the front door due to the current design of the building. The refurbishment has been designed to reduce heat loss and make the space more efficient to heat and ultimately operate. This is expected to deliver long-term savings on the Hospice’s energy bills, helping to reduce running costs and allowing more of the money raised by the local community to support patient care and Hospice services.
The refurbishment forms part of Pendleside Hospice’s ongoing investment in its facilities and future sustainability, ensuring the building is fit for the future. Patient care remains the number one priority throughout the refurbishment and beyond.
What does this mean for visitors?
While the refurbishment is taking place, the Hospice Reception will be temporarily closed. A temporary reception will be located in a portacabin in the Hospice visitor car park, directly outside the main entrance.
The same reception team will be available from the temporary reception to assist patients, families and visitors throughout the refurbishment. There will also be a small shop within the portacabin, allowing visitors to continue to purchase items during the works.
For patients staying on the Inpatient Unit, there will be no changes to the care they receive. The only change will be how visitors enter the unit. Visitors will access the Inpatient Unit via the doors next to the temporary portacabin in the car park.
Changes to Health, Wellbeing and Rehabilitation Groups
All Health, Wellbeing and Rehabilitation groups will continue as normal throughout the refurbishment. However, groups will temporarily move to the downstairs area of the Hospice, with participants asked to enter through the bottom entrance.
The Hospice team will provide guidance and signage to help everyone find their way around during the works.
Car Parking
As refurbishment work gets underway, our car parking will be a little more limited than usual. We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience, and we’ll do everything we can to make your visit as easy as possible.
Disabled parking spaces will be available in the middle car park, directly in front of the Hospice.
Patient and visitor parking will also be available in the car park on the left-hand side as you drive into the Hospice grounds.
For patients attending our Health and Wellbeing and outpatient services, dedicated drop-off spaces will be available down the ramp at the side of the Hospice.
If you’re worried about parking or accessing the building during the refurbishment, please let us know. We’re here to help and will work with you to find the most suitable solution and provide any support you may need.
Apologies for Disruption
Although the refurbishment will mean some temporary changes to how people access and move around the Hospice, the care provided to patients will remain unchanged. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption while the work is underway.
The Senior Management Team would like to thank all patients, families, visitors, volunteers and staff for their patience, understanding and co-operation during the refurbishment.
Once complete, the refurbished Reception will provide a modern, welcoming and more energy-efficient space, supporting Pendleside Hospice and the people it cares for many years to come.
