Pendleside celebrates 30th year with fundraising drive
Pendleside Hospice is celebrating its 30th anniversary year by launching a year-long fundraising campaign to help fund the future of hospice care.
The Reedley-based hospice which provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, is marking the milestone year by hosting a number of special events.
As part of the campaign the hospice has created a birthday gift list called ‘Help Us Fund the Future’, with 30 targets they are hoping to meet this year. Included on the list are 30 teams to join their Corporate Challenge and 30 businesses to become patrons of the hospice or to choose Pendleside as their charity of the year.
A special concert to celebrate 30 years of hospice care featuring a host of schools from across Burnley and Pendle has also been announced to take place in May. While they are also planning to bring back the midnight memories walk, an amazingly successful event over 2,000 people taking part to remember their loved ones.
On October 5th the date of the anniversary the celebrations will culminate with a special birthday celebration at the hospice.
The hospice costs almost £4 million each year to run, of which £3 million is raised locally through individual and organised fundraising initiatives. This is supported by an army of 450 hospice volunteers who give up their valuable time to help with organised events, with more than 200 of them helping in the hospice’s nine Shops.
Helen McVey Chief Executive of Pendleside Hospice said: “2018 is a very special year for us here at Pendleside Hospice as we celebrate 30 years since the hospice was founded.
“Since then we have seen the demand for our services grow year on year. While we have also seen a change in the care and support we provide, helping people with more diverse needs and medical conditions ranging from cancer to muscular dystrophy and dementia.
“With our services now meeting the needs of around 1500 local people a year, providing care within our inpatient unit, day services, outpatient department, it is more vital than ever before that we are able to continue our work.
“As the late Muriel Jobling MBE, the founding chairman of the hospice would say ‘The hospice was built by the community for the community’ and without the support of our local community we wouldn’t be able to continue to deliver the care to the people who need our support.
“As we go into our 30th anniversary year, we are calling on all our supporters and volunteers to help us to fund our future in order that we can ensure that the hospice is here for all who need our support in the years to come.”
