Getting to Sandgate:

The most popular way to arrive at Sandgate, Flookburgh is by car, you turn onto Main Street in Flookburgh and then drive straight over the hill until you reach Sandgate. Your nearest train station is Cark & Cartmel. All walks end back at the starting point. Toilets are also available at the start & finish point.

Starting at Sandgate the bay walk really is a unique walk in itself with a visit to the historic Chapel Island. Walkers are expected to arrive 1 hour prior to the walk start time to ensure that you register your arrival with Raymond or with your chosen charity.

Briefing:

Raymond will start his briefing at the designated start time of the walk. Raymond and his team shall be wearing bright yellow t-shirts. Kindly respect social distancing when gathering for the briefing. Raymond will introduce himself and explain the walk in detail. The walk will only set off once we notified the coastguard our walker numbers. Charities are required to give us their final number of walkers on the day so we can inform the coastguard of exact number walkers.

The Walk:

As we set off we walk along the headland of Sandgate out on the Bay itself, care must be taken as the ground could be slippery, sensible footwear is required, all walkers MUST walk behind Raymond at all times. This is for your own safety.

Once out onto the sand we shall meet up with our Quad Bike, the Quad is not a toy to have a ride on, they are our emergency vehicle should someone fall ill we can get them off the sands safely and quickly. Feel free when stationary to chat to our driver and take photos and don’t forget to tag us @guideoversands on your social media. At this point of the walk shoes can be removed to experience the barefoot walk of the bay.

Chapel Island:

Chapel Island is a amazing area with a hug amount of historic values, we ask you keep dogs on leads and children within a close proximity for safety as the Island itself is rocky. Walkers are not allowed to walk onto the Island due to the birds that live there however Raymond will advise where you can and cannot go.

Once we reach the island walkers can enjoy a drink and some snacks for around 30 minutes, throughout the walk we stop to ensure all walkers are walking as one group and the gap from the front to the back doesn’t stretch out too far.

Finishing Point:

As we leave the sands at Sandgate, all walkers are to follow Raymond and once off the sand we then walk along the headland of Sandgate, shoes can be put on at this point.

Once we arrive back to Sandgate you have then completed your walk.
