Matt Simm from Nelson walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks with 8 friends on Sunday 23rd April 2018 to celebrate his 27th Birthday and raised £647 in aid of Pendleside Hospice!
The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a hard hike in the Yorkshire Dales taking in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The distance covered is about 24 miles during which hikers ascend over 2,150 metres in total.
“We set off at 06:30 with zero training and zero preparation, to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 10 hours, all for the wonderful cause that is the Pendleside Hospice. It turned out to be the hardest day of my life … I highly under estimated the difficulty of the hike. It was a gruelling final push up the third peak, Ingleborough! The only thing getting me up those peaks was knowing that it was all for a fabulous cause. With grit and determination we made the final climb and completed the challenge within our set time. I can say with great pride that the challenge was completed and donations are still coming in!
I couldn't be prouder of my girlfriend and friends for doing this and helping me out with my goal of raising money for the Hospice for my birthday. Doing what I've done, as a birthday celebration, feels 1000 times better than going out and wasting hard earned money on partying. I know the Hospice relies on donations to continue caring for and supporting patients, their family members and carers”.
