Mark Ingham from Barrowford has raised £965 in aid of Pendleside Hospice by completing the Pure Challenge 100K Forest of Bowland Walk circular walk starting from Slaidburn at 08.00 on 18th March.
The 100K Bowland Walk challenge is to complete the route within 24 hours but it was officially cancelled part way through due to the horrendously bad weather which swept across the UK that weekend. Mark, who is a keen and experienced hiker, powered through and finished - despite the rain breaking his mobile phone and wading his way through the many fast flowing streams which had formed on the peaks and paths along the route.
Mark said "There was no way that I wasn't going to finish the challenge even in the awful weather and after the event organisers cancelled the event. The worse bit for me was Waddington Fell at around 5am in the morning as I had been walking for around 20 hours in the constant rain and through the night on my own. I was so glad to finish safely in 22 hours and 50 minutes and raise money for a fantastic local charity".
