LONDON MARATHON 2018

On Sunday 22nd April 9 hospice supporters took part in the world famous London Marathon raising a record breaking £34,240 in aid of Pendleside.

Team Pendleside have worked extremely hard this year battling snowy freezing training conditions and then completing the run on the hottest day ever recorded on marathon day. Our running costs at Pendleside now exceed £4.2 million per year so we are so grateful for all the effort put in by everyone. They are all amazing and put so much effort into their fundraising hosting balls, cake bakes, dress down days at work and even selling special addition Adidas trainers!

More about some of Team Pendleside…

·

Amanda Wood said “It was my second marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed it… I didn’t the first time I completed 26.2 miles in 2012, I said I would never do it again! The atmosphere from start to finish was brilliant, despite the scorching heat. The hospice is such a fantastic local cause though so I always support them. We never know if/when we or those close to us might need to access their services. Thank you to Pendleside for giving me the opportunity to fundraise on their behalf, the memories I will cherish forever”

·

Richard Robinson said "Sunday was brutal... It has to be the hardest thing I have ever done! I finished in 5 hours and 22 minutes, which was a bit slower than I had hoped but given the heat I'm not complaining. I expected sore legs but not the number of blisters on my toes which made the the tube journey across London the day after nearly as difficult as the marathon! Still it was a small price to pay to take part in a truly overwhelming occasion, so a big thank you to the hospice for the opportunity to run in support of them".
Richard has raised over £2,600 which will go directly towards patient care at Pendleside Hospice

·

Lucy Turzynski Team Pendleside and Team Alzheimer's Society said "I am sore! It was ridiculously hot, but the crowds were awesome and kept me going! I finished in 3 hours and 40 minutes so I am very chuffed" Lucy has raised £625 for each of her chosen charities

·

Jonny Hall said "It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done... the weather was brutal but I completed it in 4 hours 48 minutes! My legs are feeling it now, however it was a great day out". Jonny raised a fab £1,738

·

Paul and Louise Anderson have raised over £13,400. Paul had unfortunately had to pull out of the run a couple of months ago, but went down to London to cheer on Louise... when he got there he couldn't resist so bought himself some running gear and did it!

·

There was a celebrity taking part in the marathon as part of Team Pendleside... The King, Mr Elvis Presley aka Andy Riley. Andy said “I finished the marathon in 5 hours and 20 minutes despite the record breaking temperatures! I was running in memory of my father whom I lost to cancer in 2016 and for the last two weeks of his life was cared for by the staff and volunteers at Pendleside”.
