LOOSE CHANGE CAN HELP HOSPICE Pendleside Hospice and Rosehill Post Office are encouraging you to lighten your purses and pockets and get digging down the back of the sofa for all your loose change with their Penny Trail Appeal. Just launched, this appeal encourages everyone to donate all the coppers and loose change to the hospice with the aim of collecting enough to complete a trail from Rosehill Post Office to the hospice. The photo to the left shows Rosehill Post Office Postmaster, Mr Steve Harvey with some of the coins that are being collected for his Penny Trail Appeal If the change collected is in just pennies then each mile would raise £792 and with the distance from the Post Office to the Hospice being around 6 miles the hospice hopes to raise in excess of £4,000. The hospice have special money bags that can be collected from hospice reception or from Rosehill Post Office and once filled with loose change can be taken back to the hospice or the Post Office and exchanged with another. The money raised from this initiative will help the hospice provide care to local people suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses. The cost of providing care increases each year in response to demand for services. Current annual running costs exceed £1.8 million, of which, more than £1.4 million has to be raised from fundraising events and donations. Rosehill Post Office have been fundraising for Pendleside Hospice for many years now mainly from the sale of second hand books. Postmaster, Steve Harvey has now raised over £12,000 for the hospice from his customers that come from far and wide to pick up a bargain from the very extensive selection of books on offer. Hospice Fundraising Manager, Mrs Kaye Bartle said “We all have lots of loose change in our purses and pockets that we tend to disregard as not having much value and in most cases tends to be a nuisance by being bulky and heavy, however by donating it to the hospice every ones loose change together really can make a huge difference to us.” If you would like to collect your loose change for Pendleside Hospice then collecting bags can be collected from hospice reception or from Rosehill Post Office, large organisations that want multiple bags can contact the hospice on 01282 440100. For further information please contact Kaye Bartle at Pendleside Hospice on 01282 440100 or Mr Steve Harvey at Rosehill PO on 01282 422106

SONGS FROM THE NEIGHBOURHOOD – CD LAUNCH.
A 20 track Charity CD in aid of Pendleside Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice by artists and musicians with local connections who have donated their time and talent to create –
‘SONGS FROM THE NEIGHBOURHOOD’ Artists include: Simon Webbe Sam Hird The Hollies Ellie Lawson Big Picture The Milltown Brothers Slack Alice
The initial idea was born out of an informal chat between local artist and songwriter Mark Nelson and singer and media specialist Bruce Thomas. Having been involved in the local music scene for some years, and sharing the same love of music, they discussed the possibility of covering some Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young songs, just for fun…or better still, in aid of charity. Pendleside Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice were suggested as deserving local causes. Christina Cope, the Hospice Fundraising Manager loved the novel idea. Local filmmaker, Stephen Rigg, was recruited, who in turn contacted the legendary Burnley born Hollies drummer, Bobby Elliott. ‘Our House’, written by Bobby’s friend and former band mate, Graham Nash was the obvious choice and the perfect lead track for the album. Bob contacted Graham at his Los Angeles home and asked if it was OK for a bunch of Pendle musicians to record his song. “I would be honoured if they recorded any of my songs” Graham replied. And so Bobby Elliott on drums, along with lead singer Bruce Thomas, Danny Handley on lead guitar and vocals, Barney Williams: keyboards, Mark Caffrey: bass, Chris ‘Biff’ Hartley: guitar and backing vocals, Mark Nelson on acoustic guitar and Ged Lynch adding percussion, came together as one band – BIG PICTURE. Peter Gabriel’s engineer, Mark Jones kindly produced ‘Our House’ and track two: Mark Nelson’s composition ‘Summer’ at MJM Recording studios, Blackburn. Bobby sent the finished mix of ‘Our House’ to Graham who replied as follows: “It feels so good to see that music does indeed change peoples lives… and a nice record it is! Thanks to Europe’s largest CD manufacturer, EDC of Blackburn, for their generosity and to all the artists and musicians who feature on this amazing album. The lead track ‘Our House” will be available to download soon.
