A ‘SPOOKTACULAR’ EVENT FOR PENDLESIDE HOSPICE
A ‘spooktacular’ event which Pendleside Hospice Fundraisers are delighted to say raised over £10,000 for the charity.
Witches, Dracula’s, Zombies, the Adam’s Family even dogs with bat wings all took part as over 200 people donned their fancy dress costumes for a trek up Pendle Hill on the Sunday before Halloween. Hospice supporters all in spooky outfits were seen tackling the hill from 9.30am and tucked into a well earned pie ‘n’ peas at the end of the walk in Barley Village Hall.
Two superb prizes were given for two best dressed walkers child and adult categories, Ellie Green aged 8 won tickets to Sandcastle at Blackpool and Lisa Douglas won the adult class and bagged an overnight stay for their for two at the 4* Holiday Inn Harrogate hotel where they can relax and recover from the trek!
Local estate agents Petty’s are sponsors of the event and Ian Bythell from Petty’s said: “We were delighted to support Pendleside Hospice with this walk. Supporting local communities and good causes is at the heart of our business and what better way to show this than by teaming up with the hospice to raise vital funds. It was a real family occasion with everyone having such fun. We look forward to doing it all again next year!”
Christina Cope, Fundraising Manager at Pendleside Hospice added: “This was the second time we have organised a Halloween Walk and the feedback we received was fantastic! The smiling faces on the families, especially the children, taking on the challenge were a real treat and the fact that most people took time out to arrange a fancy dress costume too really turned this into an event to remember.”
Both Pendleside Hospice and Petty’s wanted to say a special thank you to all the sponsored walkers who took part and to everyone involved on the day that made this event happen and most importantly, happen safely. The Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue, Raynet, St John’s Ambulance, the Community Police, Peter Anslow photography, Sheila and Mark for organizing the pie ‘n’ peas, the committee at Barley Village Hall and the friends and staff from Pendleside Hospice.
Pendleside Hospice provides care to local people suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. The Hospice is able to provide that care thanks to the support of the community, which last year raised £2.35 million towards annual running costs of over £3.2 million.
