Shop News
Support for our charity shops in Burnley and Pendle has been overwhelming in recent years, resulting in them becoming vibrant, integral parts of the communities they serve, as well as providing vital funds for the work of Pendleside Hospice.  Led and staffed entirely by volunteers, the shops offer cheerful service to the many customers who shop with them day in, day out, not only to scoop a bargain but to catch up on community news and to support the hospice.

Much of the success of the shops is down to the excellent quality of goods that are donated, sorted and then resold.  Support for the shops is such that many, many bags full of goods are donated each day.

Behind the scenes our volunteers, mostly ladies in their retirement, sort the bags and price up as many goods as possible to sell. Many items that cannot be sold are sent for recycling which also raises money for the Hospice.

We would like to thank all members of our community who support the Hospice by donating goods to our shops.  Although not wanting to refuse anything that could raise funds, there are some items that the shops can neither sell nor recycle which inevitably have to be treated as refuse.

Unfortunately, these goods, include electrical items, large items of furniture, prams and buggies, child car seats, unsold car boot bric-a-brac and the remains of house clearances, however, a great new business has come on board to support Pendleside called Sellit.com. They sell goods for us such as these on ebay and all or a percentage of the proceeds come to the Hospice. For more information please see our news page or contact Sellit.com on freephone 08004220578.

Many of the items are heavy and the shops do not generally have the ability to handle them safely.  Also, the Hospice incurs cost to dispose of some of this material, which obviously reduces the amount of money available for patient care.  The shops are ready, willing and able to receive all types of clean textiles and shoes, household goods in saleable condition, books, games, toys, records, tapes, CD‘s and DVD‘s, knitting patterns and haberdashery, small items of furniture and bric-a-brac in good condition.

It helps enormously if textiles can be kept separate from the rest and all of these can be converted into money for the benefit of terminally ill people in Burnley and Pendle. Please check with your local Hospice charity shop if you are unsure about any goods that you may wish to donate.
