In Patients

Our In-patient unit has 10 single rooms, each with en-suite facilities. They have been tastefully decorated and were furnished by local fundraising groups, to help people feel at home within Pendleside.

In Patient RoomAll rooms have en-suite (toilet & washbasin) T.V., radio and telephone and views in to the well maintained gardens.  A bird table is positioned within view from every room.

Our aim is to promote the quality of life for each individual, their families and carers by providing skilled palliative care using a holistic approach to encompass physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. Care is given, free of charge, by suitably qualified nurses and trained volunteers.

Patients are admitted under the care of the hospice Medical Director, Dr Susan Corkhill & Dr Chris Ainsworth.

Patients can be admitted for symptom control and can be closely monitored whilst medication is changed. Respite care is available for one or two weeks to allow carers to have a well earned rest. During this time, arrangements can be made to provide nursing care, social care and equipment as required prior to discharge.

Unfortunately, Pendleside is unable to provide long term care. If a patient’s condition is stable yet they are unable to return home, alternative arrangements can be made for their on-going care. However, if they have reached the final stages of their life, they may choose to stay in the hospice for care and support.

Conservatory

There are no formal visiting hours but it is important that friends and relatives do not overwhelm patients. Children are welcome and pets can visit.

Friends and family are welcome to help with care of patients and become part of the team.  Many have been looking after their loved ones at home and we do not want them to feel excluded. They can let staff do the caring and they can concentrate on the loving.

Referrals will be accepted from any health care professional, patient, relative or carers.  When referrals are received from a patient, their carers or relatives, contact will always be made (with the patients consent) with the patients General Practitioner and any other relevant Health Care Professionals to obtain clinical information.
